PRIMARY HEALTHCARE
Compulsory cover
PAYCLASSES 2-6
PASS PC 2 - 6 (permanent and T2)
The Coalition of Unions has appointed Discovery FlexiCare Plus as the service provider for primary healthcare to PASS staff members in pay classes 2-6 effective 1 January 2023
Membership to the Discovery FlexiCare Plus is compulsory for all PASS staff in pay classes 2 to 6 on permanent and T2 conditions of service.
Cover will commence from 1 January 2023 and the cost per employee will be deducted from their cost of employment (CoE).
As an alternative, staff members in this category have the option to remain on or join the University's medical aid scheme or to be the main or spouse/partner dependant on another external registered South African medical aid scheme.
Proof of cover, a current membership certificate, must be sent to the healthcare office. Failure to provide appropriate proof of cover will result in the automatic activation of a Discovery Flexicare Plus membership for the main member.
A promotion to pay class 7 or above will carry different medical aid requirement and conditions of service and must be adhered too.
Statutory notice
Discovery FlexiCare Plus is not a registered medical aid scheme, and the cover is not the same as that of a medical scheme. This is not a substitute for medical scheme membership.
Post-retirement medical aid subsidy
Only permanent staff members appointed prior to 01 January 2018; and who provide proof of continuous cover on either the UCT medical aid scheme OR external registered South African medical aid scheme/s (as either the main member or spouse dependant) may be eligible to receive the UCT post-retirement medical aid subsidy. Eligible staff members wishing to use the subsidy must transfer to the UCT medical aid scheme prior to retiring.
All T2 staff members do not qualify for the UCT post-retirement medical aid subsidy.
Staff members who choose the primary healthcare insurance option will not qualify for the subsidy on retirement.
