Process for Retirement (Academic Staff)

Retirement Age

The appointment ends at the end of the year in which the staff member turns 65.

A member may elect to retire at any time after attaining the age of 55 years, provided that he/she gives the required six months' notice, and that the Council approves such retirement.

The process of searching for and appointing a replacement for an academic staff member often takes up to a year, and staff are therefore encouraged to give at least a year's notice of their intention to retire.
